Pitched at millennials, first global small SUV will be launched in Korea with claimed space and functionality of SUV class above.
Kia Motors has revealed the first design images of its new small SUV. Due to be revealed fully in summer, Kia claims the car possesses the space and capabilities of a traditional SUV in a compact package.
The design is inspired by the 2019 Kia SP Signature Concept. Design details include a long hood, accentuated front bumper and the still obligatory creases on the flanks. When will curves come back?
“A strong shoulder line, matched with a glasshouse which tapers towards the rear of the car, as well as rear bumper with a metallic muffler effect, lends the compact SUV an air of understated sportiness.,” says Kia.
The headlights are a bit different at least. The LEDs extend over the radiator grille with a “three-dimensional light graphic and diamond pattern at their trailing edges”, according to the company. The design is echoed in the rear LED lamps.
“We have created a car which stands out everywhere, from the city to the countryside,” said Byung Chul Juh, head of Kia Styling.
“Its robust yet sporty design will be matched by a wide range of features and technologies universally suited to younger buyers in markets around the world.”
By adding a new global small SUV to its line-up, Kia Motors claims it will have a range of SUVs to fulfil the needs of customers in every region.
Kia’s first global small SUV will go on-sale in Korea in the second half of 2019, with sales in other regions to follow soon after.
